1 When Hezekiah was mortally ill, the prophet Isaiah, son of Amoz, came and said to him: “Thus says the Lord: Put your house in order, for you are about to die; you shall not recover.” 2 Then Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to the Lord: 3 “O Lord, remember how faithfully and wholeheartedly I conducted myself in your presence, doing what was pleasing to you!” And Hezekiah wept bitterly. 4 Then the word of the Lord came to Isaiah: 5 “Go, tell Hezekiah: Thus says the Lord, the God of your father David: I have heard your prayer and seen your tears. I will heal you: in three days you shall go up to the Lord’s temple; I will add fifteen years to your life. 6 I will rescue you and this city from the hand of the king of Assyria; I will be a shield to this city.” 21 Isaiah then ordered a poultice of figs to be taken and applied to the boil, that he might recover. 22 Then Hezekiah asked, “What is the sign that I shall go up to the temple of the Lord?” 7 Isaiah answered: “This will be the sign for you from the Lord that he will do what he has promised: 8 See, I will make the shadow cast by the sun on the stairway to the terrace of Ahaz go back the ten steps it has advanced.” So the sun came back the ten steps it had advanced.
It was our infirmities that He bore, our sufferings that He endured, while we thought of Him as stricken, as one smitten by God and afflicted. But He was pierced for our offenses crushed for our sins, upon Him was the chastisement that makes us whole, by His stripes we were healed. - Isaiah 53:4-5

God Heals You
God Listens
In whispers soft, our prayers ascend,
To heavens high, where mercies blend.
With compassion, He hears each plea,
Extending grace, so tenderly.
No power is beyond His might,
In darkest hours, He brings the light.
Miracles unfold, faith renewed,
In His word, our strength is brewed.
Through trials fierce, our faith is tried,
In God’s embrace, we safely hide.
Obedience to His gentle call,
In simple ways, He guides us all.
Seek His will in every choice,
In His wisdom, we rejoice.
With hearts sincere, His path we trace,
In every step, we find His grace.

SICKNESS AND RECOVERY OF HEZEKIAH
Isaiah 38:1-6 / 21-22
First Reading | Isaiah 38:1-6, 21-22, 7-8
Background:
Isaiah 38:1-6, 21-22, and 7-8 recounts a significant event in the life of King Hezekiah of Judah. Here’s a brief background:
Context and Summary
Hezekiah’s Illness and Prayer (Isaiah 38:1-6): King Hezekiah fell gravely ill, and the prophet Isaiah informed him that he would not recover and should set his house in order. In response, Hezekiah prayed earnestly to the Lord, reminding God of his faithfulness and pleading for his life. God heard his prayer and granted him an additional fifteen years of life.
Sign of Healing (Isaiah 38:7-8): As a sign of this promise, God caused the shadow on the sundial of Ahaz to go back ten steps, a miraculous event that confirmed His word to Hezekiah.
Healing and Recovery (Isaiah 38:21-22): Isaiah instructed that a poultice of figs be applied to Hezekiah’s boil, which led to his recovery. Hezekiah also asked for a sign to confirm that he would go up to the house of the Lord.
Historical and Theological Significance
Historical Context: These events occurred during a time of great political and military turmoil, likely around 701 B.C., when Judah was threatened by the Assyrian Empire. Hezekiah’s illness and subsequent recovery were pivotal moments that demonstrated God’s power and mercy.
